It’s easy not to make time for growing

Running a small business can be very stressful; there’s lots to do and little time to do it. As a result it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day details of running a business, just to stand still. Whilst you dream of growing, it never actually reaches the top of the priority pile and it remains a dream.

First step to growing

If you are serious about growing, the first step to take is backwards. By this I mean step away from the day-to-day run-around and take some time to plan out how you may grow. Just half a day away from the hustle can be sufficient for you to feel reenergised and to plan out how you want to grow. Then you can return an start implementing those plans.

There’s more than one way to grow a business

Once you’re taking that time out of the business, the first question you need to ask is “In what way do I want my business to grow?”. It may be that you want more profit from the existing business, to free up time or to grow sales. Different aims will mean that you need to act differently to achieve them. For example, if you are looking simply for more profit from the business, you can look at efficiency and waste or whether you can increase prices. If you are wanting to grow, you can look at the resources and effort need to increase sales.
