Coventry FHS had a comprehensive website. It included a diary, a membership area and many datasets used by family historians. The functionality was limited in that you couldn’t join online. This is an essential function for societies these days, especially if you want to gain membership overseas. Also, it was not responsive and so did not work well on tablets and phones. Nepeta Consulting helped them convert the existing site to WordPress and add more functionality.
The website now has:
- Online membership system, with subscription and renewal
- A members’ area for datasets and information not available to the general public
- A shop selling books and data
- Events management
- Photographic archive of Coventry and its people.
The emphasis on this project was training as the Coventry team was keen to continue to expand the website themselves. In addition to training, the site was developed jointly to allow the team to understand how everything worked and take the website forward.
